Terms & Conditions
These terms set out the enrolment, payment, and conduct arrangements that apply to all Hikmah Academy programmes. Please read them before submitting an enquiry or completing registration.
Last updated: January 2025 | Governed by the laws of Malaysia
A note on language
These terms are written in plain language wherever possible. If any section is unclear, please contact us before enrolment and we will explain it directly. You can reach us at +60 18-624 9073 or by post at Jalan Bendahara 54, 75000 Melaka.
1. About Hikmah Academy
Hikmah Academy operates as a financial education provider based in Melaka, Malaysia. We offer structured learning programmes on household debt management for adults aged 40 and above. Our programmes are educational in nature — they are not financial advisory services, legal services, or debt restructuring services. We do not hold funds on behalf of learners, and we do not negotiate with creditors directly.
Where a programme includes a consultation with a licensed credit counsellor, that consultation is arranged through a partnered AKPK-aware provider and is governed by the terms of that provider separately from these terms.
2. Who These Terms Apply To
These terms apply to any individual who:
- Submits an enquiry through our website or by telephone
- Registers for or purchases any Hikmah Academy programme
- Attends any webinar, seminar, or workshop session operated by Hikmah Academy
- Accesses any digital materials, recorded sessions, or printed resources provided by Hikmah Academy
By submitting an enquiry or completing enrolment, you confirm that you have read and agreed to these terms. If you are registering on behalf of a spouse or household member, you confirm that you have their consent to provide their personal details.
3. Programmes Offered
Hikmah Academy currently offers three programmes:
Understanding Household Debt
A three-week course delivered as evening webinars with printed worksheets. Includes one telephone consultation with a licensed credit counsellor from a partnered provider. Fee: RM 530.
Practical Debt Reduction Workshop
A six-week intermediate programme combining webinar sessions with small-group workshops held in Melaka and Kuala Lumpur. Includes two private counsellor consultations and downloadable repayment templates. Fee: RM 900.
Comprehensive Household Recovery Programme
A four-month programme conducted in small, confidential groups with monthly evening seminars. Includes a dedicated counsellor for the programme duration, structured six-week progress reviews, a private hardbound recovery binder, and access to recorded sessions. Conducted with strict confidentiality. Maximum of eight participants per group. Fee: RM 1,440.
Programme content, schedules, and included materials are described in detail on our Courses page at solutions.html. The descriptions on that page form part of what you enrol in. If a material feature of a programme changes after your registration, we will notify you directly and give you the option to withdraw with a full refund.
4. Enrolment Process
Enrolment in any Hikmah Academy programme is completed in two stages:
- Enquiry: You submit your details through our contact form or by telephone. This is not a binding commitment and carries no cost.
- Registration: Following a brief discussion with our team, you confirm your place by completing a registration form and paying the programme fee or agreed deposit. Your place is reserved only upon receipt of payment.
We limit group sizes in certain programmes to preserve a quiet, considered learning environment. Places are offered in the order enquiries are received. If a cohort is full, we will notify you and offer a place on the next available intake.
5. Fees and Payment
Fee amounts
Fees are quoted in Malaysian Ringgit (RM) and are inclusive of all programme materials, worksheets, digital resources, and counsellor consultations included in that programme's description. Fees do not include travel or accommodation costs for in-person sessions.
Payment methods
We accept payment by bank transfer (FPX), online banking, or such other methods as we make available at the time of registration. Full details are provided at the point of registration. We do not accept cash payments by post.
Payment plans
For the Practical Debt Reduction Workshop and the Comprehensive Household Recovery Programme, we can arrange payment in two instalments on request. The first instalment is due at registration and the second no later than the start of Week 3 of the programme. A payment plan must be agreed in writing before registration is confirmed.
Receipts
An official receipt will be issued to you by email within two business days of cleared payment. Please retain this receipt as proof of enrolment.
6. Cancellation and Refunds
Cancellation by learner
You may cancel your enrolment at any time. The refund available depends on when we receive your written cancellation notice:
- More than 14 calendar days before the programme start date: full refund of fees paid
- Between 7 and 14 calendar days before the start date: 50% refund of fees paid
- Fewer than 7 calendar days before the start date, or after the programme has begun: no refund is available, though we will retain your materials and offer you a place on the next intake at no additional charge, subject to availability
Cancellations must be submitted in writing to [email protected] or by post to our Melaka address. The date of receipt of your written notice is the date used for the above calculation.
Cancellation or rescheduling by Hikmah Academy
We reserve the right to reschedule or cancel any session due to circumstances outside our reasonable control, including but not limited to venue issues, instructor unavailability, or public health directives. In such cases, we will notify you as early as possible and offer either a rescheduled place or a full refund of fees paid for the affected sessions. We will not be liable for any additional costs you have incurred, such as travel or accommodation.
Counsellor consultations
Telephone consultations with licensed counsellors must be scheduled within the programme period. Unused consultations do not carry over and are not refundable separately from the programme fee.
7. Attendance and Participation
Programmes are designed around a group learning rhythm. We ask that all learners:
- Attend scheduled sessions punctually and notify us in advance if they are unable to attend a session
- Complete worksheets and exercises at a pace that suits them, though staying reasonably aligned with the programme schedule helps the group
- Treat fellow learners with courtesy and discretion — particularly in group settings where personal financial circumstances may be discussed
We do not penalise learners for missing individual sessions, and we will provide session notes or recordings (where available) to those who miss a class. However, we are unable to offer individual make-up sessions or extend programme timelines for individual learners.
Minimum attendance — Comprehensive Programme
For the Comprehensive Household Recovery Programme, we ask learners to attend at least three of the four monthly seminars to receive their hardbound recovery binder and completion acknowledgement. If personal circumstances prevent this, please speak with us early and we will discuss options.
8. Learner Conduct
Hikmah Academy maintains a respectful and non-judgemental environment. We ask all participants to:
- Treat facilitators, counsellors, and fellow learners with respect and patience
- Keep confidential any personal or financial information shared by other participants in group settings
- Not record, photograph, or distribute session content without our written consent
- Not use our materials or session content for commercial purposes
We reserve the right to remove a learner from a programme if their conduct significantly disrupts the learning environment or breaches the confidentiality of other participants. In such circumstances, no refund will be provided.
9. Intellectual Property
All course materials — including worksheets, printed guides, digital templates, slides, and recorded sessions — are the intellectual property of Hikmah Academy and are licensed to enrolled learners for personal use only. Learners may not reproduce, distribute, sell, or publicly share these materials in any form without our prior written consent.
The hardbound recovery binder provided in the Comprehensive Programme is for personal use. Learners may annotate and adapt its contents for their own household planning but may not reproduce it for distribution.
10. Educational Nature of Our Programmes
Hikmah Academy provides financial education — structured learning about concepts, tools, and frameworks relevant to household debt management. Our programmes and facilitators do not:
- Provide individual financial advice regulated under Malaysian financial services law
- Act as your agent in dealings with banks, creditors, or AKPK
- Guarantee any financial outcome, debt reduction target, or credit score change
- Provide legal advice on debt recovery proceedings or bankruptcy matters
Where a programme includes access to a licensed credit counsellor through a partnered provider, that counsellor operates under the regulatory framework applicable to their own services. Their advice is their professional opinion and is not a commitment by Hikmah Academy.
We encourage all learners to use the knowledge gained in our programmes alongside independent professional advice appropriate to their specific circumstances.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the extent permitted by Malaysian law, Hikmah Academy's liability to any learner arising from or in connection with any programme is limited to the total fees paid by that learner for that programme.
We are not liable for any indirect, consequential, or financial loss arising from your reliance on programme content, including but not limited to decisions made about debt repayment, restructuring, or financial planning.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under Malaysian law.
12. Personal Data
We collect and process personal data in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (Malaysia) and our Privacy Policy, which is available at privacy-policy.html. By registering for a programme, you confirm that you have read and understood our Privacy Policy.
Data shared in the context of counsellor consultations is handled with strict confidentiality and is not shared with other programme participants or third parties without your consent, except where required by law.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time to reflect changes in our programmes, legal requirements, or operational practices. When we do, we will update the date shown at the top of this page. For learners already enrolled at the time of any change, the terms in place at the time of their registration will continue to govern their enrolment unless they agree otherwise.
14. Governing Law and Disputes
These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Malaysia. Any dispute arising from these terms or from your participation in a Hikmah Academy programme will first be addressed through good-faith discussion. We ask that you contact us directly before pursuing any formal process, as most concerns can be resolved simply through a conversation.
If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, it will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Malaysia.
15. Contact Us
If you have any questions about these terms, or if anything here is unclear, please reach out. We are happy to explain any section in plain language before you commit to enrolment.
